Do You Know Who You Really Are? -- By Ruth Seebeck

It's Not Who You Are That Holds You Back, It's Who You Think You're Not. ~ Author Unknown
If I asked you "Who are you?", how would you answer? Would you tell me you are someone's mom or dad? Perhaps you identify yourself as ___'s spouse. Or you might tell me your job title or what you do for a living. For instance, I'm Jen's mom, Ed's wife, Thelma's daughter, and a business woman.
Do you see the problem? You are either identified through someone else or you are defined by your job or what you do. But those answers don't tell me who you really are. Instead, they reduce you to a role you play in other people's lives.
So, how do you see yourself? Do you recognize the value of who you are, or do you identify yourself through the images of your childhood? You know, those messages that run in your head...
  • You're not good enough.
  • You can't do anything right.
  • You're so dumb. You'll never amount to anything!
  • You are lazy... slow... messy... worthless...

That may be how your parents, teachers or other adults saw you. But I'm here to tell you that none of that matters. It is not the Truth about who you really are. God has a different image of you. Try these instead:
You are loved. ... Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:... (I John 3:1) Can you imagine? You are the son/daughter of GOD, heir of the universe! He created everything for you because He loves you! You are His valued, precious child and He wants the very best for you - just like you do for your children.
You are important. You are the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath... (Deut. 2813) God calls you a 'king and priest', two of the highest titles He could bestow. Kings are rulers; they (you) are powerful, not pitiful. Are you willing to take authority over your circumstances and live in faith like God wants you to - as a king and priest?
You are righteous. "...not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith." (Phil. 3:9) It's not based on anything you've done, it's just who you are. Jesus gave you His righteousness, right standing with God. Nothing you do can change who you are because it's based on what Jesus did.
You are God's favorite childFor You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield. (Ps. 5:12) Now, it's true that God doesn't 'play favorites'. Everything He has is freely given to all of His children. Every promise, every blessing, 'every good gift' the Bible says (James 1:17) is from Him... for you.
You are redeemed. Ye are redeemed from the curse... (Gal. 3:13). Every bad thing in this world is 'under the curse', but God names you redeemed. Jesus paid the price for you and redeemed you from 'every evil thing'.
You are powerful. For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Tim. 1:7) Next time you feel incapable, tired or weak, remind yourself that You can do all things through Christ which strengthens you (Phil. 4:13). There is nothing that you cannot overcome because God's has empowered you for victory. You are more than a conqueror! (Rom. 8:37)
You are filled with faith. For God has given to everyone the measure of faith... (Rom. 12:3) Yep, it's in there. Faith to live a life as a king and priest, faith to receive everything God wants to give his favored child - you! And you have the power to develop and strengthen your faith - with practice. Try it out. Take a stand of faith, believing for the result you want, based on His Word.
You are wiseChrist has been made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. ... (1 Cor. 1:30). You are the offspring of Divine Mind, omnipotent, omniscient, infinite wisdom. How often do you say to yourself, "I know I shouldn't but..." or "I know I should..." You know the answer to most of your problems. Be willing to follow the wisdom you know.
You are healed. ... by His stripes, you were healed. (I Peter 2:24) God, through Jesus, healed you and made you whole, spirit, soup and body. Whatever physical or mental challenge you face has already been dealt with by Jesus. He never said no. He never said He couldn't or wouldn't heal. Claim your divine birthright.
You are BLESSED. God...has blessed us with every spiritual blessing... (Eph. 1:3). You are already blessed with everything you need. Since all abundance and blessing starts first in the spiritual realm, you can tap into The Blessing to receive anything you need. Think about it. Everything you see around you started first with an idea. From spirit to matter through faith - belief that an idea could become physical reality. It doesn't just work for inventions - it works for anything you need! You are already blessed.
Who are you?
We identify ourselves through relationship; however, we often forget the most important relationship of all - our relationship with God. Above all else, we are His children, created in His image.
  • You are more than a conqueror... (Rom. 8:37)
  • You are wise, strong and honorable ... (1 Cor. 1:26)
  • You are of more value than many sparrows (Matt. 10:31)
  • You are complete... (Col. 2:10)
  • You are an heir... (Gal. 3:19

You are adopted into His family, and heir of all He has, the recipient of His love, power and goodness. You are his favored child, the recipient of His blessing. Begin to claim God's vision of who you are. Tell yourself, "I am loved. I am healed. I am wise. I am full of faith. I am blessed! That's who you really are!
